Burberry invented the modern trench coat, and this vintage piece comes from that heritage but shows the house in a rougher, more austere mood. The brand's story begins with Thomas Burberry's gabardine of 1879 and the officers' coats of the First World War, and this design keeps the military DNA: raglan sleeves, strapped cuffs, belted waist and buttoned storm flaps. The stand collar and concealed placket make it a rare find, as it looks closer to a field coat or an officer's greatcoat than to the polished high-street trench. The padded body adds real winter warmth, while the Nova check lining, the brand's best-known pattern, is a flash of colour that appears when the coat is open. It carries the spirit of the film noir trench worn by Humphrey Bogart and the 90s minimalism of designers like Helmut Lang and Martin Margiela, and it fits easily into today's gorpcore, workwear and archive menswear scene. Wear it with a chunky knit and boots for a rugged outdoor look, or over a suit for a sharp commute. A collectible British classic for lovers of heritage outerwear and authentic vintage Burberry.
