Matthew Williamson

Multicolor

The Matthew Williamson Couture Edition silk skirt is a striking example of the designer’s signature combination of luxurious fabrics, rich colour and intricate embellishment. Made from 100% silk, with a 100% acetate lining, the skirt has a beautifully textured woven body in a sophisticated mix of taupe, champagne, bronze, olive-brown and charcoal, creating an irregular horizontal, almost painterly pattern reminiscent of bouclé or finely worked metallic tweed. The neutral, earthy tones are contrasted with rich mauve/plum velvet at the waistband and lower hem.

The real feature is the elaborate couture-style trim at the hem. A deep burgundy/plum velvet ribbon separates the woven silk from the mauve velvet border, decorated with rows of delicate hanging beadwork. The fringe combines clear and pink-toned beads, iridescent faceted crystals, metallic cylindrical beads and vivid raspberry-purple faceted beads, giving the skirt beautiful movement and sparkle. The combination of the muted woven pattern with the jewel-like crystal and bead embellishment is very characteristic of Matthew Williamson’s more opulent, bohemian-glamour aesthetic.

The skirt is fully lined, has a Couture Edition finish and is marked UK size 8. The waist measures approximately 34.5 cm laid flat and the length is 76 cm. A wonderfully distinctive statement piece that would work equally well with a simple silk blouse for daytime or dressed up with heels and a fitted top for evening.
